An Ode To My Wing-Women
It’s been a long and busy wedding season (and I’m not quite finished yet… one more to go) but I could not have taken on this monumental season without my best gals. I couldn’t write a blog post to explain how grateful I am for these two… in all honesty, words fall short.
My mom, Momsistant Kristin, only worked two weddings with me this year but I was reminded how much I need her and I can’t wait to bring her to more weddings in the coming years. My clients are always so over-the-moon to see her when we walk in on their wedding day. She incredible at observing what people need before they need it, calming the nerves of the mother of the bride (she’s been there!!!) and reminding the key people of their duties. She has helped to fluff trains before brides walk down the aisle, cue processionals and a million other day-of coordinator tasks in addition to assisting with gear, light and shooting.
My mom has never doubted my ability to do this job (at least not to my face haha) and she’s always supported my somewhat unconventional career path - especially considering that she works in an entirely different field. She loves my clients and they love her. She’s probably going to kill me when she sees the few behind the scenes shots I unearthed but I’m so grateful that she was a part of my season!
And then there’s Caity. Caity, oh gosh. I think it’s impossible to follow my story and not also follow along with my favorite six-foot tall photographer. In the midst of a total rebrand, a new website, a ton of growth within her own business, some really important workshops and second shooting for other photographers too, she found time to come along for a crazy season with me once again! There are a lot of fabulous second shooters out there but I’m so grateful to be able to work beside such a talented, fun and loving woman (almost) every weekend.
When she’s not playing with the dogs…
… or trying to blend in with the groomsmen…
… she always shows up with her signature dance move for reception light testing.
Her “what is happening right now” face is on point 24/7.
She is a TOTAL PRO at modeling her own posing.
Of course she always makes me laugh at the most important times of the wedding day where things can easily feel overwhelming and crazy.
She is an A+ professional third-wheeler.
And most importantly, she loves my couples so dearly. She treats them as if they are her own and she doesn’t hesitate to jump in and take on wedding day tasks that are way outside of the scope of photography. I’m so grateful and so lucky.
I cannot wait to share the 2018 Behind the Scenes blog post with you in the new year!! Cheers to these amazing women who keep me sane and are way too good to me. I wouldn’t be half of the photographer I am without them.
