Why Your Parents Should Sit Diagonal To You During Your Wedding Ceremony
Normally, during wedding ceremonies, the parents sit on the same side as their child. But… is that best?
Things to know:
Typically, the bride stands on the left and the groom stands on the right. However, less and less couples are sticking to this and now a lot of brides are standing so that “their favorite side” of their profile is visible to the crowd. With same-sex wedding ceremonies, couples just choose whichever side they’d like to stand on. Do whatever works for you! There is no right or wrong way to do this.
90% of my weddings over the last 6 years have been couples who specify that their guests can choose a seat on either side and not a specific side. So, that is how I’m approaching this post.
If your parents and grandparents sit on the opposite side of where their child is standing, they are better able to see their child’s faces! During a typical ceremony setup (whether it’s in a garden, a church, a ballroom or a field) where the parents and grandparents chairs are is already back slightly so their view of their child is actually of the back of their head.
I imagine that so many parents would really love to see their child’s face during the ceremony and this is something that I wish my husband and I had done for our families!
