Navy, Taupe + Blush Master Bedroom | Room Tour

Ah! I’m so excited to give you a peek at our master bedroom today. Let me make sure I preface by saying I am by no means an interior designer. As a visual person and a proud homeowner I do love decorating our spaces but I lean towards practicality and my style can be all over the place. One of my dear friends is an incredible interior designer and she is always there for me with excellent advice. Make sure you check out her blog over at Stevie Storck Design Co.!

This was the first and only room in the house that we painted before we moved in. We closed on the house in the morning and in the afternoon, Kyle was cleaning all of the floors while my mom and I painted this room.

It isn’t fancy by any means but it is my favorite space in the house because it is so relaxing and comfortable.

My style is usually light and airy with lots of white but when it comes to our bedroom, I feel very differently. I love a dark, cool, cozy room for sleeping. This space only gets light in the late evening so it’s naturally fairly dark already and since I like our bedroom to feel like a dark cave, I just decided to give in to the darker tones when choosing a paint color. In person, the walls are a little bit more navy than the come across in images. The pop of blue that the rug brings makes my heart so happy.

Our gigantic, cozy bed is my favorite place to curl up but there are a lot of tiny little touches in our bedroom that make it really special to us.

  • Our wedding guestbook was actually a bench. My Pappaw custom made us a gorgeous, sturdy wooden bench for our wedding and our guests signed it. It now sits on Kyle’s side of the bed along with two gold crates - one of those holds Butters bedtime toys. It’s meaningful and useful for us.

  • The vintage brass and milk glass lamps on our nightstands bring a little thrifted flare to the room.

  • My nightstand is usually a total mess but one thing that always sits neatly at the back is my ring dish. My little friend, Paula, painted the ceramic flower for me and signed the bottom. I think of her every day when I put my earrings and rings in it at night.

  • The frames above our bed currently have wedding photos in them but I hope eventually as our family grows we’ll be able to swap those out. One day I envision them being a little representation of our love story over time.

  • The second thing I did in the room other than paint was change out the knob on the Kyle’s closet door for a blue agate knob that I looooove. I think it ties in with the rug perfectly.

  • Our curtains are just paint drop cloths that my mom sewed for us for our very first apartment on Ikea rods. Nothing fancy! Maybe one day I will get around to actually changing these out but we live in an old house with original windows (basically, very energy inefficient and drafty). These thick drop cloths keep the cold air out in the winter and block a lot of evening sunlight in the summer to regulate the room temperature. I made the tiebacks and we recently added pull down, cordless blackout shades. When in doubt, I always choose practicality!

Enjoy a little peek into our master bedroom!
